5” Full VGA, pre-loaded with Inland Lakes Detail and XM Audio/Weather Capability!
Garmin has taken another step toward making the perfect fresh water chartplotter for inland lake boats with the release of their new GPSMAP 531. The 531 has an ultra-bright color 5” diagonal high resolution display. The 531’s display will also automatically dim for easy readability in changing light conditions and has faster screen redraws thanks to high speed processors. The GPS 531 comes with a high sensitivity built-in GPS antenna to accurately show your position on Garmin’s latest Inland Lake detail. The Inland Lakes detail covers over 14,000 inland lakes showing depth contours, boat ramps, mile markers, hazards and marinas.
If you also bring your boat to coastal waters, the GPSMAP 531 is compatible with the optional Bluechart G2 Vision Cards. The G2 Vision cards will enhance the Costal and offshore water detail. The Garmin G2 information will include coastlines, shaded depth contours, navaids, port plans, wrecks, restricted areas, tides and current information. With the purchase of the G2 Vision Card, the mariner will be able to see “real world” photos of ports, harbors, marinas, waterways, navigational landmarks and other points of interest. The G2 Vision card also enables the mariner to view 3D perspectives above and below the waterline. Another new feature that Garmin has unveiled with the 531 is called Auto Guidance technology. This feature helps the user navigate with the best possible route.
The Garmin GPSMAP 531 also compatible with the optional GXM-51 antenna for real time weather data from XM. The XM Satellite Weather is a monthly subscription that will give you access to Real Time weather such as NEXRAD radar, current weather conditions and forecasts, as well as sea surface temperatures, wind and wave direction, wave height, lightning and much more. Monthly subscriptions is required through XM and plans can be viewed at this link.
The GPSMAP 531C also features audible alarms for anchor drag, arrival to a waypoint or destination, 10 proximity waypoints, off-course, and clock as well as low battery voltage. The Garmin 531 also has loads of memory for waypoints and tracks; storing up to 3,000 waypoints with name and graphical symbol and 10,000 track log points with room to save 50 tracks. If you want to save routes, the 531 can store 50 of them all reversible with up to 300 per route.
When connected with a DSC capable VHF radio, the GPSMAP 531 can graphically display the positioning data received from the radio. Other features include built in tide and celestial data, back up of user data on a data card, and a Housing that is waterproof to IPX-7 standards.
