The Garmin GPSMAP 640 is an all-in-one Marine and Automotive Navigator. This versatile, waterproof, large display, mobile mapping GPS is perfect for any automotive or coastal boating excursion. The GPSMAP 640 features a super-bright 5.2” WVGA touchscreen display that's easy to read in bright sunlight. Behind the crystal clear display are the brains of the lightning fast GPSMAP 640 navigation system which provides fast redraws and almost instant satellite acquisition. The 640 comes pre-loaded with all of Garmin’s Bluechart g2 mapping for the entire Coastal US and Great Lakes, and Garmin’s highly-detailed City Navigator NT Road Maps for the Continental US.
On water, the GPSMAP 640 is a dependable, color chartplotter with a built-in high-sensitivity GPS antenna. The built-in Bluechart g2 charting provides depth contours, spot soundings and navaids for the coastal US including the Great Lakes, Alaska, Hawaii and Bahamas. View your position on the detailed chart and get info like ETA, speed and distance to destination. The 640 is also compatible with Garmin’s g2 Vision cards for adding high-resolution satellite imagery, auto-guidance technology, aerial reference photos, 3D Mariner’s Eye View, 3D FishEye view and more.
On land, the Garmin GPSMAP 640 is loaded with Garmin’s City Navigator NT for North America which includes US, Canada and Puerto Rico. City Navigator provides more than 8 million miles of road coverage and nearly 6 million points of interest. Choose your destination from the pre-loaded points of interest or enter the address of your choice and the GPSMAP 640 will provide voice turn-by-turn directions with spoken street names.
If you are not going to near a charging source, the GPSMAP 640 can operate up to 9 hours on a full charge. It can also keep you tuned into weather and traffic with the optional XM GXM 40 receiver.
