Large 4.3” display, pre-loaded maps of North America, and a high sensitivity receiver, the Garmin Nuvi 250W has it all. The 250W adds a low cost, large screen portable navigation device to the ground breaking Garmin Nuvi Family. The screen is not only wide, but it is also very bright, and viewable in any lighting condition. The built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery will last for use away from power for up to 5 hours. With the built-in battery and its highly sensitive receiver for better reception around tall buildings, the Nuvi 250W is the perfect companion for the next walk through and unfamiliar city.
The Nuvi 250W comes pre-loaded with the Garmin City Navigator NT mapping software, with detailed mapping provided from Navteq, for all of North America including Puerto Rico. Just when you thought the Nuvi had run out of room, Garmin stuffed it with over 6 million Points-of-Interest, with categories such as hotels, restaurants, banks/ATM, gas stations and many others. Just use the touch screen display to enter in the name of the POI or the address that you are traveling to, and the Nuvi will calculate the best route based on your choice of fastest time or shortest distance. You are guided with verbal turn-by-turn directions as well as text directions on the display. If you get off track, don’t worry the 250 Wide will recalculate the route and get you right back on track. You can even add custom points of interest into the database and set warnings when you are near them.
The Nuvi 250W has the travel kit built into the software which includes a JPEG picture viewer, world clock, currency converter, measurement converter and a calculator. Garmin also added an SD card slot so you can use an SD card for storing images. It will also accept the optional Garmin Travel Guide and Garmin Language guide to an SD card through on board SD memory card expansion slot.

Now Available! The future replacement for the Nuvi 250W. Take a look at the Garmin Nuvi 255W Wide. |

I recently used the Nuvi 250W to navigate to Loris Hospital, SC. Locating the Hospital within the GPS could not have been any easier. The Nuvi 250W has an Icon specifically designated for Hospitals. I did not know the street address, but the menu brought up an address list that was the closest to my location, and when I made my selection from the list it was as simple as pressing the Go button. The Nuvi 250W did have a more scenic route designated, so I just selected a “Via SC 9” which was a Highway I was familiar with, and it got me there flawlessly and faster. Another neat feature I didn’t think I’d need, is the Calculator, so for non-cell phone owners such as myself it came in handy! The customizable POI’s feature is nice too, you can add your own Point Of Interest to the unit if there’s a new store or restaurant in town that you would like saved to the unit. The unit will not overwhelm you with features you may not ever use. With 6 million points of interest, and its simplified menus make this one my new favorite!
