Waterproof Nuvi for Many Uses!
Hiking, Biking, Driving, or Boating, the Garmin Nuvi 500 has the ability to help you navigate anywhere you want to go. Because it is a Nuvi, the 500 has a sleek design that is ultra portable. The Nuvi 500 is the first Garmin, waterproof, multi-mode GPS device. The Garmin 500 case is built to IPX-7 standards so it is submersible to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Inside, there is a highly sensitive GPS receiver with HotFix technology for the very best satellite reception and tracking. The 3.5” display is a touch screen and it is bright and easy to see, even in direct sunlight
The Nuvi 500 is setup for multiple uses so it has different modes for your different activities. Already inside the unit is the Garmin Mapsource U.S. topographic maps plus City Navigator® NT data for the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. In the Automotive mode the Nuvi 500 will guide you to a specific address or point of interest of your choosing right from its database and guide you there with verbal and on screen turn-by-turn directions. Just use the touch screen to enter the destination and you are on your way. If you miss a turn the Garmin Nuvi 500 will recalculate and get you right back on track. Switch the Nuvi 500 over to the Walking mode and you will see yourself on top of Garmin’s 1:100,000 scale topo maps and get details like elevation contours, hiking trails, ranger stations and many more outdoor related POI’s. Add the optional Garmin BlueChart G2 Vision or Inland Lakes Vision cards and the Marine mode will help you maneuver your way through the water. The Nuvi 500 will take you right to your favorite fishing spots.
The Nuvi 500 is also loaded with other great features. With Garmin Connect Photos you can add images to your saved locations to easily identify them. The microSD card slot will allow the Garmin Nuvi 500 Crossover GPS to take the Garmin Travel and Saver Guides as well as load additional maps from other Garmin Mapsource titles such as International City Navigator, BlueChart, and Inland Lakes. The Nuvi 500 will even accept GPS files for complete descriptions and hints for Geocaches.
The Garmin Nuvi 500 and 550 now have Text-to-Speech routing, which means the units will verbally speake the name of the street you are turning onto. Some units may require a software update to add the Text-to-Speech. Use this link to get the free software update for your Garmin GPS.
