The Oregon 400i is a full featured mapping GPS which means it is preloaded with not only a Digital Elevation basemap, but also the detailed Garmin Mapsource Inland Lakes maps for the entire United States. The Inland Lakes maps will show information such as coastlines, shaded depth contours, navaids, port plans, wrecks, restricted areas, tides and current information, right on the Garmin 400i display. You can also add a microSD card to store the optional MapSource detailed maps like City Navigator NT and Topo 2008. By adding the City Navigator NT software, the Garmin Oregon will then be able to guide you with on screen text, turn-by-turn directions for navigating in your vehicle. Garmin has also made many of its more popular Mapsource titles available on pre-loaded microSD cards, including the BlueChart G2 Vision, Topo 2008 and City Navigator Europe. When you purchase the pre-programmed microSD cards, there is no need to connect your Oregon 400i to your PC for map uploading.
The Oregon 400i has plenty of other features that will make navigation easier and more enjoyable. Every Oregon 400 units has a built in barometric altimeter for accurate elevation data and an electronic compass that displays an accurate heading while standing still. You can even view the maps loaded in the Garmin Oregon in a 3D mode right on the display. Every Garmin Oregon has the ability to wirelessly share waypoints, routes, and tracks with other Garmin Oregon and Colorado users. Other features include area calculation, the ability to select different profiles for different applications, image viewer and a geocache mode.
The Oregon 400i replaces the Colorado 400i.
