Chad McCumbee Gears Up for Some Fun in the Sun at California.
MOORESVILLE, NC (February 20, 2007) – As the saying goes, It’s always sunny in California. And Chad McCumbee hopes that things stay sunny for his No. 08 theGPSstore.com / Garmin Chevrolet. His team is fresh off of a 13th-place finish at Daytona International Speedway, and now they are heading to California Speedway.
“I think that we are going to have a really good truck at California,” said McCumbee. “We really don’t get too much of a break after Daytona. We leave for the west coast on Wednesday. The guys at the shop did a great job of getting the truck all ready and on the road to California.
“I am looking forward to getting back to the intermediate style tracks. That is where we have had a lot of success before.”
It won’t be McCumbee’s first trip to the west coast track. Last year, when he was running under the flag of another team, he gained some valuable experience at the flat, two-mile track and brought home a top-25 finish.
“I was driving for a different team last year at California. We were a ‘go or go home’ car, and we were able to make the race. I had a good run there, but we ended up running out of tires. We were one of the ‘go or go home’ cars, so we had to worry about qualifying last year and didn’t get to focus too much on preparing for the race. I had to use up a lot of the tires in practice to get ready for qualifying.
“Overall it was a good run,” added McCumbee. “It was the first time I had ever been there, and we were able to move through the field pretty good. I am just looking forward to going back there. It will be good to go back somewhere familiar, especially with all of the momentum from our good finish at Daytona. I think it should be a good weekend for theGPSstore.com / Garmin Chevrolet.”
The next race for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will come on Friday, February 23rd, at California Speedway with the running of the San Bernardino County 200.
