The Garmin Approach G82 is a premium GPS golf handheld that combines advanced on course navigation with built in launch monitor technology. Designed for golfers who want deeper insight into their game, the G82 features a large 5 inch transflective color touchscreen that remains easy to read in bright sunlight. Its durable design includes an IPX7 water rating, making it suitable for varied weather conditions. Measuring 3.3 by 6.3 by 0.9 inches and weighing 10.9 ounces, the device feels solid yet portable, whether used on a cart, at the driving range, or during a full round.

The display offers a crisp 480 by 800 pixel resolution and is controlled through a responsive touchscreen interface. The internal rechargeable lithium ion battery provides up to 25 hours of use in GPS mode and up to 8 hours in radar based launch monitor mode. Charging and data transfer are handled through a modern USB C interface. The device includes a high sensitivity GPS receiver to ensure accurate yardages and positioning across the course.

Golf features are at the core of the Approach G82 experience. It comes preloaded with more than 43,000 courses worldwide and provides precise yardages to the front, middle, and back of the green, as well as to layups and doglegs. Players can view full vector course maps, hazards, and custom targets, and use touch targeting to measure distance to any point on the display. Additional tools include Green View with manual pin positioning, PlaysLike distance, PinPointer for blind shots, digital scorecard, stat tracking, handicap scoring, and a round timer and odometer. The device pairs with the Garmin Golf app and is tournament legal when set appropriately.

What sets the Approach G82 apart is its integrated radar based launch monitor. It measures key metrics such as club head speed, ball speed, smash factor, estimated carry distance, and a full set of putting metrics including ball speed, club speed, tempo, and stroke length. Accuracy is rated within plus or minus 5 mph for club head speed, plus or minus 2 mph for ball speed, plus or minus 0.3 for swing tempo, and plus or minus 5 yards for carry distance. Practice features include warm up mode, target practice, tempo training, virtual rounds, and driving range modes to help golfers train with purpose.

Connectivity features enhance the overall experience by enabling Bluetooth Smart pairing with a smartphone and the Garmin Golf app. Through the app, golfers can access wind speed and direction, virtual caddie recommendations, and additional premium features such as Green Contours and aerial imagery with a Garmin Golf membership. The Approach G82 is also compatible with Approach CT10 automatic club tracking sensors as an optional accessory.
